Bio for Jose Benavides  
 

Born in Edinburg, Tejas, raised in the grape fields of California, educated as a Mechanical Engineer and Artist at Cal State Sacramento, transplanted to Arizona where an MFA in Studio Art was earned at Arizona State University.  

I have always known that I was going to be an artist, though ignorant of the role of an artist in society until I took college level art courses.  While perusing a Mechanical Engineering degree I realized my niche was to develop art that conceptually used both sides of the brain. Arizona Commission on the Arts

  • I have been on the Arizona Commission for the Arts Roster teaching as an Artist in Residence since 1996.

  • Exhibited art in local and national galleries since 1983

  • Taught Art at the college, high school, and elementary school level

  • Teach teachers the development of Art projects for increasing learning and retention in students with Math, Reading, Writing, and Geography. The GALEF Institute, a national organization. 2003 - 2005
